Keep a look out for the blue Alumni tab in MyBeckett, which will appear within five days of your award being confirmed.
This will help you make the transition from student to alumnus, linking you to everything you need to know and do before you leave us, and before your accounts expire.
You can prepare for graduation, download your data and documents, convert your student accounts into alumni ones, and make use of the continuous support we provide after you have left Leeds Beckett University. You can also find out about postgraduate study with us if you don’t want to leave!
The Library will be open 24/7 during the vacation and our news page tells you all about key dates for holds, short loans etc.
If you are coming onto campus don’t forget to bring your Campus Card with you to issue or return books or use the Library overnight.
If you need your PIN to borrow books or top up you can look them up on MyBeckett – your Library PIN is available via the Library tab, and your Kiosk PIN via the IT Support tab.
You can also top up for i-Print via MyBeckett, access SPSS software, check Quote Unquote for a referencing query and much more.
IT Help is available on 0113 812 1000 or you can Chat with Us but it’s a good idea to set up your challenge and response questions in the self service password manager in case you forget your password over Christmas!
The laptop loans service will be unavailable 24th December – 3rd January inclusive. Please use the networked PCs in the Library instead.
If you’re studying at home over Christmas you can:
- Access your P: drive via the Files tab on MyBeckett.
- Use Discover for fast and easy searching of our resources and access thousands of ebooks and journals.
- Visit another University Library – the SCONUL Vacation Access Scheme enables you to access other university libraries (check they are open first). The Eduroam wireless network also lets you use your laptop in many other universities (don’t forget to set this up before you leave campus).
- If you have a deadline and need to submit online over the vacation take a look at our survival guide for help.
- If you’re revising for your post Christmas exams there are hints and tips on our exam web page.
- If you’re lucky enough to receive a shiny new laptop from Santa don’t forget you can download Microsoft Office 365 for free as a Leeds Beckett student.
And if you need a break from studying why not select a festive film from our Box of Broadcasts playlist or take inspiration from our Bah Humbug! Pinterest Board .
The Library wishes you all a Merry Christmas!
Now that the clocks have gone back and we are heading into the winter months we thought it might be worth reminding you about how you can access Library services and resources without leaving the comfort of your bedroom! Not that we want to discourage you from coming in to the Library (and of course we’re open 24/7 so if you find you’re missing us you can pop in at any time)!
Over 100,000 of our resources are available electronically eg journals, databases, ebooks and newspapers and can be easily searched via Discover. The subject guides prepared by our Academic Librarians also point you in the right direction for web resources and information linked to your subject. If you need more help from them you can book an appointment online or on a Skills for Learning workshop as well as booking Student Meeting Rooms for the next time you’re on campus.
If you’re working on your assignment at home make sure you’ve downloaded Microsoft Advantage for free and you can also access SPSS statistical analysis software via MyBeckett. Once you’re ready to submit you can submit online in MyBeckett (if your lecturer has set this up for your module) or send your document to print on one of the Library printers and collect it when you come in.
The Library Catalogue is available online, letting you search for resources, place holds, renew and pay fines. MyBeckett provides access to your modules, resource lists, timetables, university email, library resources, careers and employability information, Campus Card top up and much more. And Skills for Learning lets you keep your academic skills in shape, check those referencing queries or listen to a podcast on topics such as time management. *
Or take a break from studying but still use Library resources! Box of Broadcasts and Leeds Beckett Media Player provide access to thousands of TV and radio programmes.
And of course there’s help available from the Library 24/7. You can phone us on 0113 812 1000 or chat with us. If you send an email we’ll respond within 3 hours between 08:30 and 18:30 Monday-Friday or within 24 hours overnight and at weekends. Just Contact Us for more information.
* please note that the Catalogue is unavailable between approximately 02:00 and 02:30 on Tuesday-Saturday for essential backups and MyBeckett is also unavailable 01:00-05:00 on Friday mornings.
It’s not just building work taking place over the summer. Our Learning Systems team are also busy upgrading MyBeckett. Work to upgrade the system will take place during the week of the 3rd – 7th August.
The team will be installing an updated version, which comes with new features which our Staff and Students will be able to use in the next academic year.
What’s does this mean?
In a nutshell, it means that the system will be taken down between the 3rd and the 7th August 2015 and will therefore be unavailable during this time. This is necessary to complete the upgrade and test it to make sure that MyBeckett is in full working order for when it comes back online.
What if I need to access links I normally get through MyBeckett?
You won’t be able to access your Modules and their content during this time, but there are still plenty of University Services which will be fully available so that you can still gain access to important links and other information you would usually get through MyBeckett:
What happens after the upgrade?
When upgrade week is over the system will return to its usual web address: http://my.leedsbeckett.ac.uk, and you will be able to use it normally.
