Find your space

A161205-1 Library HC-15cropWe know how busy it gets in the Libraries at the end of the academic year when everyone is working on final assignments and revising for exams so we’re doing all we can to help you find the study space you need:

  • Both Headingley and Sheila Silver Libraries are open 24/7, for details of when staff are here to help see the Opening Hours page. Please bring your Campus Card to access the Libraries.
  • We’ve worked with the University to make extra rooms available for revision, so if it is too busy in the Library you can head over there. You can also use the study tables in City Campus Students’ Union and the Living Rooms on both campuses.
  • We’ve added information to our website to tell you about the most popular times and spaces are in Headingley and Sheila Silver Libraries to help you choose your study space.
  • Timetables outside the IT Labs tell you when there isn’t any teaching taking place and if they are available for you to use. You can check PC Availability on the plasmas as you come into the Library or on the Leeds Beckett App to find out where there are free PCs.
  • You can contact us if other students aren’t respecting the study environment – please quote the number of the study space so we know where to find you. If you are working in the silent study areas and people are talking you can text us on 0113 320 7594 and we’ll get someone to investigate.

But please help your fellow students too:

  • Don’t chat if you’re in the silent study areas and remember to turn your phones to silent.
  • Don’t “occupy” spaces with your belongings and disappear for hours on end (we know most of you only take short breaks – and that’s a good thing – but if you do need to leave for more than 20 minutes please take your things with you).
  • Don’t use PCs or laptops just for social networking when others need to use them for work.
  • Remember to cancel your Student Meeting Room booking if you don’t need it.

As always please ask staff if you need any help.

Printing and Binding

It’s time to stop amending and re-reading and commit to getting those final pieces of work printed!

But before you do remember to save and back up all that hard work.

A161205-1 Library HC-194The Library web pages have detailed information and videos about how to print your work, including locations of printers. We have printers all floors of the Library so don’t waste time queuing on the ground floor. You can also use ones in the social learning spaces and Student Hub.

And did you know that you can send your work to print from your own device rather than having to log on to a University PC? Our YouTube video shows you how.

Make sure you have enough money on your Campus Card before you start to print – you can top up at the Kiosks on the ground floors of the Libraries or online. But if you’re graduating this year only add small amounts as all credit on your i-Print account will be cleared when you graduate.

Don’t let binding your work become a bind (!) – you can:

  • bind it yourself at the City or Headingley Library. Buy a binding kit (binding comb, black card rear cover, clear PVC front cover) from Library staff for £1, and follow the instructions in our video
  • or, from £2.50 the Print Room based at Headingley Campus will bind most assignments for you.  Contact 0113 8123510 or Email: theprintroom@leedsbeckett.ac.uk (James Graham Building JG13) for more info. You will need to pay for this service in cash or by credit/debit card. You are not able to use the credit on your i-Print account.DSC_9026
